Letter to the Editor – Wisconsin Protests

About the protest in Madison: The network news stations are not telling the whole story. I get my info from WI public television and radio where they let both sides argue it out, and from the University Deans, Chancellors, Presidents and from independent sources. Also from some of my local politicians. I, nor has anybody else that questions the bill has been able to talk to my state senator even though appointments were made ahead of time. A few representatives have talked on radio programs.

This is mainly about Governor Walker wanting to get rid of collective bargaining (CB), forever. There is no end date to these changes. He claims that this is crucial to balance WI’s budget. Yet the WI Employees (WE) have already said they would pay more into their pension fund and more for their health insurance. WE already pay into those programs. WE have given Walker all the money he is asking for the Budget Repair Bill (BRB) and for the fiscal budget that starts in July. But he still insist on breaking the unions so he can do whatever he wants to do; more pay cuts, cut benefits, work more hours without compensation, make WE pay more-for whatever he wants.

Break in at Sacred Paths Center – UPDATE

Last night, some time between 8:30 pm and 6am this morning, someone broke into the Sacred Paths Center and at least one other nearby business. Keith Vorderbruggen, Vice President of the board of directors for SPC, first alerted the community to the break in on the Sacred Paths Center Facebook page.  He came to the community center at about 10am this morning and noticed that the front door was boarded up and unusable.  He then entered the building from the ally door.  The police had already been through SPC and had dusted for prints before Keith had arrived.

PNC spoke with Executive Director, Teisha Magee.  She said that little appears to have been stolen from SPC except for a small amount of cash,  “They took about $40 in coins from the cash register, but missed the donation jar.”  Property damage includes broken doors, the cahs register, and locked drawers that the burglars forced open.  Until the front door can be replaced, Sacred Paths Center is closed for business.  Teisha says they are spending the day cleaning, working with their landlord, insurance company, and the police.  As of yet, the police do not have any leads in this investigation.

UMPA Annual Meeting and Anniversary Celebration

The Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance celebrated it’s fourth anniversary Saturday evening with a capacity crowd at the Sacred Paths Center.  Not only was the event packed with people, it was packed with activities.  Attendees were treated to entertainment by the ever popular Murphey’s Midnight Rounders and tribal dancing by Kamala Chaand.  UMPA held it’s annual meeting, where they ratified new by-laws and elected their officers for the next two years.  New officers are Bonnie Hanna-Powers, Gary Lingen, Bress Nicneven, Grace Morgan. and Joshua Adam Blesi.

The community also settled a long simmering dispute – who makes the best red sauce, Don from the Coven of the Standing Stones or Mistress Judy Olson?  Don won the competition handily, but many at the event said if you mix the two, it was better than each sauce alone.
