PNC-MN to interview GOP Presidential Candidate

Two-term New Mexico Govenor Gary Johnson

For the past few weeks PNC-Minnesota has been working to set up a unique opportunity for Pagan media – a live interview with GOP Presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson.  In addition to PNC-Minnesota, five other Pagan media organizations will participate  in a 2 hour live video Q&A with Gov. Johnson to take place on a Google+ hangout on Sunday, October 16th at 6:30pm CST to 8:30pm CST.  As the Hindu and First Nations communities share common interests with the Pagan community, two media slots have been reserved for them in addition to the six afforded to us.  This is a rare opportunity for Pagan media to ask a Presidential candidate questions about topics that are important to our diverse community.  It could be a first step in greater access to interview political candidates for Pagan media.

The Q&A session will be streamed live courtesy of  Keith Barrett of KeithBarrettTV.  The Q&A will also recorded for future play back.  The link for the live feed will be posted on PNC-Minnesota on Sunday.

Other Pagan media organizations participating in the Q&A with former New Mexico Gov. Johnson include Jason Pitzl-Waters of The Wild Hunt, Star Foster of Patheos.com, Devin Hunter of ModernWitch Podcast, and David Salisbury of PNC-DC and the Human Rights Campaign.

“God Factory” Art Show Opens Saturday

Roger Williamson with Painting

Roger Williamson of Magus Books and Herbs has a one person art show of his paintings entitled, “God Factory” , Mystery IS Energy… but what does that mean? opening this weekend at The Nicollet.  Comets-ov-Cupid and Jealous Jester will offer live music for the opening reception 7pm Saturday, October 8.  The Nicollet is a spacious relaxed space with fine coffee and food at the NE corner of Franklin and Nicollet Avenues in Minneapolis.  I talked to Roger about his art.

How long have you been painting?

I used to paint way back in school in Coventry, England. Later my father was helping to get me back on the straight, and signed me up for art school in the town we lived. He dropped me there the first day. I wasn’t very impressed with it. For the next six weeks he dropped me there each morning. I would walk in the front door, down the corridor and walk out the side door. He finally got a letter asking where I was… and he asked me where the Hell I had been. I really was in love with rock and roll, so I had spent my time in the south railroad coffee bar. It was the first time I had heard Bo Diddley, and I can still remember that experience. In those days you could go to college free in England. At that time I was totally preoccupied with music, and that continued until my thirties.

I was writing a book and I needed an image of the Lovers tarot card. I had never been happy with the images that were available. My art started from there. I was working in pastels then and did a series on the Enochian workings on the Earth Tablet. I did some automatic drawings about these experiences. It was like this floodgate opened, I couldn’t stop just churning out these pictures. It was almost like an exorcism. This started about thirteen years ago when I really started. It was such a shock when I would get one of these pastels framed, it was so expensive. I switched to oil so when I got one done I could just pound a nail in the wall and hang it up. I transferred my pastel technique to oil and then worked from there.

OccupyMN starts today

OccupyMN, our state’s version of Occupy Wall Street, kicks off today at the Hennepin County Government Plaza. The Occupy movement is a grassroots protest which began in New York City and has now spread to cities across our nation.  The movement says  they represent the “99%,” those income earners who make less than $380,000 per year in household income.

OccupyMN:  Facebook, Website
Protest address: Government Plaza, 352 S 5th Ave, Minneapolis, MN

LaDonna Redmond, a co-organizer of OccupyMN released this statement in a press release, “Today we are renaming Government Plaza ‘The People’s Plaza’. We intend to stay indefinitely and we welcome all Minnesotans to join us. If you are struggling; if have lost your job, or your home; if you have seen your child unjustly incarcerated; if you are homeless, living without healthcare, or drowning in debt; if you work full time but still are unable to afford food to feed your family; if you feel no one is listening to you; if you are fed up with the direction this country is going in — then you are one of the 99%. We are talking to you. Come and join us! This is your chance to be heard.”

The New York City Occupy Wall Street General Assembly is working on a document they call the Declaration of the Occupation of New York City.  The declaration is a list of grievances that cover a wide range of issues including economic abuses, discrimination, animal rights, the high cost of college tuition, and American colonialism.  As of yet, the groups have no demands.  Organizers say that’s the purpose of the protests, to allow the 99% to come together and formulate solutions to what they see as societal problems.   This is in contrast to what they say usually happens, the richest, most powerful 1% in this country make decisions that benefit them at the expense of the other 99%.  The Occupy movement says it is not political Left vs political Right, Liberal vs Conservative, or Democrat vs Republican, but is open to all the 99%.

Although there is no official ‘Pagan Cluster’ similar to Washington DC’s Occupy protest, several local Pagans plan to attend.  PNC is providing coverage of this protest, as we have covered other protests that have attracted the attention of the Pagan community, such as the union protests in Wisconsin and the Tea Party protests.  We will link to other PNC bureau coverage and PNC-Minnesota will be at the protests in Minneapolis.

Earth House Announces Festival Layaway Program

In response to festivant requests, the Earth House Project of Minnesota announced a Festival Layaway Program for Paypal registrants. Several participants reportedly approached members of Earth House’s Midsummer Gather last year and asked about the availability of a payment plan, and others  said they had issues raising the registration fee all at once.

The Earth house plan allows participants who sign up through September to submit automatic payments of the total registration cost over 10 months. Registrants  pay $13.00 a month until June through a subscription payment through Paypal .  The plan will adjust payment amounts based on the remaining months before the 12th Annual Midsummer Gather, if registrants sign up after September. There is also a youth option for the Festival Layaway Program, children 10 and under attend free with any paid adult.

Earth House Project of Minnesota sponsors the Midsummer Gather at Eagle Cave Campground and the Coffee Cauldron every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Edge Coffee House and the Sacred Paths Center.  Contact: 1 (877) 538-4121,  email Earth House Project of Minnesota or visit www.EarthHouseMN.org for more information.

An online informal survey of national pagan events reveals few offer payment plans for event costs that are under $300, if at all.  No definitive statistics are available about the use of payment plans to aid Pagans in budgeting for the festival experience or increase festival attendance.
