Paganistan Weekly; September 3-9

It’s hard to believe that Roger has retired from Magus Books & Herbs. His voice does still greet people on their answering machine, as of this morning. It is a voice which will be missed by many customers. Many warm wishes to Roger for a blessed retirement. You have done a lot for this community.

The Labyrinth dedication at Eye of Horus was moving and powerful. Be sure to check it out. It is permanently a part of the room at the back of the store, and open for walking.

The very popular Holistic Diagnostics 1 at Magus Books & Herbs starts again this Wednesday. Liz teaches this year long exploration of herbs.

Next Friday a new labyrinth will have its installation celebration at the Eye of Horus. Hat was the large multi-purpose room at the Eye of Horus, is now the temple room with a permanent labyrinth painted on the floor. The Eye of Horus had had a permanent labyrinth at their previous location, and now have one again. Roger is retiring from Magus Books & Herbs. Roger has had an important impact on this community, and many individuals within it. If you have a chance, stop by Magus Books & Herbs this Saturday to celebrate his retirement. There will be food and entertainment.

News Flash: The Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance Fall Highway Cleanup date has been postponed from Sat. September 1st to Saturday September 15th!

Sacred Harvest Festival was astounding. Old friendships were reestablished. New friendships were begun. New skills were learned. Old skills were honed. There was much growth, and much rest. Sacred Harvest Festival is this week. For many people around here, Sacred Harvest Festival is just the big local Pagan festival. Many do not realize how uniquely important Sacred Harvest Festival is.

Years ago, I traveled to many Pagan festivals. I wanted to explore what it was to be a Pagan, and meet as many Pagans as possible. What I found was that at many Pagan festivals, people drank mead, drank other alcohol, had sex, and generally had a really good time. Sure there were workshops and rituals, but they were rarely well attended. Mostly Pagan festivals seemed like fun social gatherings.

Then I attended Sacred Harvest Festival. I didn’t attend the ritual, and what I saw was a mostly empty camp. Almost everyone else had gone to the ritual. People actually attended workshops also, and the quality of workshops was excellent. I saw children with families, where they were actually behaving as families. There was some mead, but very little drunkenness, despite the fact that the quality of the mead was superior to what was found at many other festivals. It was clear that Sacred Harvest Festival was special. I found it to be so significant that I wanted to be a part of the community which made this festival happen, and moved to the Twin Cities because of this experience.

By the time you read this, I will probably be at Sacred Harvest Festival. There are many in this community whose lives have been positively impacted by Sacred Harvest Festival. Many things have begun there, local political movements, friendships, events, and pregnancies. It is a fertile place for many purposes. Many seeds are planted and much grows. The Yahoo group has always been the source for this newsletter, and it is time to return the focus to the source.

At Sacred Harvest Festival in 2008, I participated in a ritual known as The Sacred Hunt. It is a powerful and transformational ritual. I hunted for community. When I returned from the festival, I began developing the community Calendar at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TwinCitiesPagans/

In order to promote the Yahoo group, I began putting out this newsletter. My goal was never to publish a newsletter, but rather to promote the Yahoo group, but one thing led to another, and here we are four years later, and the newsletter is still going.
Putting out the newsletter just keeps getting to be more and more of a hassle, so after Yule of this year, I am stopping. I will continue updating the Yahoo group, but I will no longer be publishing this newsletter.
